Don Brooks, wanted in connection with the fatal shooting and burning of 42-year old Eric Robinson in the 9th Ward earlier this year, is in federal custody in St. Tammany Parish on unrelated charges. He will be extradited to Orleans Parish once the federal case is resolved, the New Orleans Police Department announced.
Robinson was found around 6:15 a.m. on Jan. 7 badly burned in a grassy area at the edge of a lot at the corner of North Rocheblave and Independence Streets after firefighters extinguished a car blaze around the corner in the 2100 block of Pauline Street Street. He died on the scene.
Witnesses positively identified Brooks, 20, and a warrant was issue for his arrest on a second degree murder charge.
Brooks was previously arrested for second degree murder, aggravated battery by shooting, illegal carrying of a firearm, illegal use of a weapon, distribution of marijuana, suspended driver's license, armed robbery and simple robbery.
